"Some concern the direction the party has taken..."

Yeah, right off the edge into McCarthy-esque quasi-fascist land. Colin, like myself and millions of other Americans, are tired, tired, fucking tired, of using citizen's fear and yes, loathing (racism), to divide and conquer the electorate to simply maintain power. That way lies madness. And I'm afraid the fear and loathing cannot be put back in the bottle. The Right intends to poison the discourse to de-legitimize a possible Obama presidency -- but this will not be the 90's and anti-Clinton mania on the right, it will be outright xenophobia and pure animus.

The crazy right-wingers who value their perceived status above their nation are the real traitors, but that fact will be lost on those who have consistently played victim while simultaneously attacking everyone and anyone who isn't in lock-step with them. Even conservative pundits (Parker, Will, Buckley, et al), and former political darlings of the Right (Powell and Rice) are being called traitorous scum at this very moment by the pasty cowards of the 101st Keyboard Kommando Klan (i.e. Little Green Footballs, FreeRepuplic, et al).

  1. So what Jamie... Howard Stern likes to make fun of stupid people... what else is new? I've personally met some real pro-McCain Einsteins today while out canvassing for Obama today. If you are trying to make a point, then make it. I suppose you think Powell is a racist for endorsing Obama over McCain? Wouldn't have anything to do with McCain's mental issues or decision making capacity, or Palin or anything like that? No, of course not.

PS This, being my blog, I'll comment on, but I already told you I no longer want to discuss this issue with you for the reasons I've already stated.

  2. My point is that "racism" goes both ways. You keep making it seem that Obama is the victim to racism when it goes both ways. That's all I've been trying to say. The people here in the clip were not voting for Obama because they knew his stance on issues or his VP candidate, they were voting for him for being black (even though he is 1/2 white).

Actually Colin Powell is far from racist. I though Colin Powell explained himself very clearly on why Colin Powell was not endorsing McCain. To me though, it did appear to be more, not endorsing McCain vs endorsing Obama.

Needless to say, you need to realize that people are not going to vote for McCain because he is white just the same as people are not going to vote for Obama because he is black. It goes BOTH ways.

And I know it's your blog, but I am going to throw my 2 cents in as I also have freedom of speech. I just wish you would show both sides of the fence. You are worse than a politician right now.

  3. First, you don't have the right to free speech on my blog, let's get that straight. I can "just punch up 'clear.'" As Scotty once said. But I won't because your words just reinforced my point.

Last time I checked Jamie, black people are in the distinct minority in this country, constituting just 12% of the over all population. Non-blacks, such as yourself, constitute the majority, and not to mention that the civil rights act and the voting rights act (which of course is being whittled away as we breathe) were not something way back in ancient history.

Your complaints of racism are bullshit (based on our e-mail discussion) on two very distinct points. You excuse your own bigotry because of the existence of bigotry among minorities, meaning, two wrongs makes a right. And, and, you have the nerve to accuse me of partisanship when you have written nothing but right-wing talking points parroting the latest hits from the likes of fascist, bootlicking, republican ass-kissing toadies like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the like. Worse than a politician? LOL! At least I'm not "just" posting a blog, I'm walking the walk.

Smug superiority toward fellow citizens merely based on ancestry and skin color, dumb and smart alike, would be laughable in the best of times. It is not the best of times Jamie.

The Continuing Rise of the Machines

Funny things, PCs. My $400 laptop runs circles around my $2300 Sony Vaio (2.8 GHz P4, 1GB RAM) because it is 5 years "younger." Amazing shit. I bought a little USB HDTV ATSC receiver and enjoy beautiful over-the-air HD broadcasts on my laptop... for shits and grins, I plugged it in to my Sony, and it was as if I'd asked it to solve Pi to 3 million decimal places! LOL! It did a decent, albeit, hitchy job of displaying standard definition channels, but HD? Nope. Ah, Moore's law continues, no longer is it clock cycles, but it will be again, and then it will be architecture change again (multiple cores for now), ad infinitum ... until we accidentally build SkyNet. I'm guessing in 10 years, a run-of-the-mill PC will have the computational power of some of the "supercomputers" of today. I know, not a stretch. I'm just trying to get my head around the software that will be inevitably written to bog down that much CPU/Memory horsepower, because those damn d...

Pleading for the future...

"I am pleading for the future; I am pleading for a time when hatred and cruelty will not control the hearts of men." - Clarence Darrow. Keith Olbermann again cuts through the bullshit and talks about what many of us fear... and how to prevent it. If only we'd listen to reason. I know, what a concept. Yes, of course he's a partisan!! How the hell could you not be in this starkly obvious election? This election is hopefully not a premature referendum on the maturity of the proverbial hearts of men.

Happy Days! Opie, Richie, Fonzie, and Andy for Obama

See more Ron Howard videos at Funny or Die This video is simple sweet nostalgia for me! I grew up watching the Andy Griffith Show , an innocent and sweet black and white (double meaning I was of course unaware of at the time) show about simple times, and apparently devoid of the undercurrent of racism and the raging debate of Vietnam occurring in our country at the time ... or so it seemed. The morality plays within most of the episodes often, at least, subtly touched on the issues of the day and all the while simultaneously and deftly, taught tolerance, and held up to, albeit good natured, ridicule the intolerance and destructive division occurring in our country at the time. In a way that only sweet southern gentility could have pulled off. Floyd the Barber would approve this message. For me personally, The Andy Griffith Show was a serendipitous coincidence and weird connection to Hollywood because it's make-believe town of Mayberry , North Carolina was modeled after my father...
