The much vaunted "middle class."

Seems McCain is just phoning it in now... he's actually pretending that "small" business owners include multi-millionaire CEOs ... that's the way to win over the undecideds John. Good going. Sheesh , you'd think he doesn't actually want to win any longer, especially with his running mate sharpening her back stabbing knife on the rotating leather belt of the far right wingnut fringe that is mostly responsible for the destruction of the modern Republican Party. My favorite pseudo, right-wing blowhard Stephen Colbert, of the Comedy Central's Colbert Report also sums the implosion of the GOP and John McCain's plight nicely:

Why Do We Consider Obama to Be Black?

Here's and interesting article on why, unlike elsewhere in the world, Americans consider anyone who appears to have African descent as "black." This has been coined as the "one drop" rule. Barack Obama is the son of a white mother and a black father. In Latin America, he would be identified as “mulatto” or half white and half black, and in South Africa as “colored” or between white and black. Why are all African Americans, regardless of their mixed racial heritage, identified as black? What are the origins of the uniquely American “one drop” rule? Read more.

Happy Days! Opie, Richie, Fonzie, and Andy for Obama

See more Ron Howard videos at Funny or Die This video is simple sweet nostalgia for me! I grew up watching the Andy Griffith Show , an innocent and sweet black and white (double meaning I was of course unaware of at the time) show about simple times, and apparently devoid of the undercurrent of racism and the raging debate of Vietnam occurring in our country at the time ... or so it seemed. The morality plays within most of the episodes often, at least, subtly touched on the issues of the day and all the while simultaneously and deftly, taught tolerance, and held up to, albeit good natured, ridicule the intolerance and destructive division occurring in our country at the time. In a way that only sweet southern gentility could have pulled off. Floyd the Barber would approve this message. For me personally, The Andy Griffith Show was a serendipitous coincidence and weird connection to Hollywood because it's make-believe town of Mayberry , North Carolina was modeled after my father&

Obama Poll Porn

Don't fret (0r be disappointed), it ain't 'porn,' it is actually the new nom de guerre of polls that are bad for McCain and good for Obama supporters. It is fun to watch, gets you excited, but it isn't the real thing. And some of the not so "sub" text is that this all helps to set up the narrative, especially regarding a 2 to 1 ratio in some places of new registered voters being Democrats rather than Republicans (only 'liars or stupid people*' actually say they haven't a clue as to why this could be) that somehow the election, if (and it is in my mind a big "if" considering the historic nature and the animosity out there) Obama wins the election, that it was because of "voter fraud." Even if Barack Obama wins in a landslide, there will be plenty of wailing and the gnashing of teeth and dark intonations of voter fraud which will be called treason of course. What they will not mention of course, that voter fraud is a stupid an

Speaking of religion...

I think the only thing as infuriating as racial bigotry is sheer willful ignorance and Nazi-like propaganda against an entire religion exhibited in the above video. Good for the McCain supporters who confronted this nonsense. As non-believer myself, it may seem hypocritical perhaps for me to comment on this, but understanding that intolerance of one religion by the practitioner of another is why the Middle East and many parts of Asia where nearly half the world's population lives, are dangerous and seething with ethnic strife. And I cannot help it, perhaps because of my German heritage I have a genetically programmed guilt component (just kidding) that I react strongly to religious-based ' eliminationist' rhetoric.

My bestest buddy is back!

Ethan spent last weekend visiting his maternal grandparents, uncle, aunt, and a passel of cousins... he had a ball, went fishing, and all manner of fun things while in Louisiana ... he's the light of my life! He is just a joy, caring and smart with a great sense of humor. I know, parent gushing over his child isn't exactly an objective review, but hey, he's perfect, I swear! It didn't surprise me at all that his mom told me how he was being protective, sweet, and doting over his cousin "Peanut" an adorable and super sweet adopted child with many special needs problems due to his biological mother's lack of prenatal, and sadly, post-natal care. I'm so happy Ethan's Uncle Michael and Aunt Christi adopted him because he's doing so much better than even the most optimistic prognoses that were given about him at the time. Ethan just warms my heart with his innately awesome sense of empathy and fair play towards his younger cousin and friend(s). I

God Doesn't Exist? Prove it!!

Any philosophy majors out there, believers or not, understand the fallacy of this logic - proving a negative is on par with asking someone to prove the universe was in fact, not created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster , (and may he bless you with one of his noodley appendages). Many laughs and headaches may ensue, so be careful if you decide to think about this too much.

Pro America Vs. Anti America - Civil War II?

The idea that "small town" America is somehow more patriotic and more deserving of praise for sacrifices and hard work is just so ridiculous, so stupid, and yet so very dangerous that it deserves full and unrestrained mocking. Sarah Palin complains that God has been mocked in this campaign to CBN ("Christian" Broadcasting Network); while she simultaneously mocks her fellow citizens and the beatitudes of Jesus Christ. Pitting brother against brother. Shame on the McCain campaign, the GOP, Sarah Palin, and their detestable and sleazy and frankly dangerous strategy. Keith Olbermann nails it on the head with this "special comment." Keith is a partisan for sure, but so was Edward R. Murrow... because we needed him then against the McCarthyites, and we need people like Keith now against this disturbing meme that Obama is somehow alien and those who support him are un-American. Perhaps as victims of some future's history we are doomed to repeat, but I will no

Powell and "Race"

I'm waiting for someone to explain to me how Powell - a former National Security Advisor to Reagan, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Secretary of State, a literal defender of America, is picking a man who would make America less safe. - J. Hill - Cali Before I ruminate endlessly about the evils of racism which are legion, I'd like to talk about it on a more personal level due to some particularly fruitless debates with a friend (not all his fault, I admit to a some serious and exasperated intolerance). I just want to point out something I've come to see via some evolving thoughts I've been contemplating while canvassing and phone-banking for Senator Obama and fielding my friends' complaints that I'm being too sensitive and a hypocrite (e.g. reverse racist). Of course Barack Hussein Obama isn't purely "African American," no more than Colin Powell (who is actually of Caribbean descent). There is no such thing as "purely" anything when it come

Personal Experience

I've been ragged on by a certain friend, that I'm just paranoid, that there isn't that much hate out there for Obama... guess it depends on the definition of hate I suppose. Perhaps it is just ignorance, but having a man, after seeing my Obama/ Biden button on my shirt in a bar this evening, saying to me, "you're gonna vote for that nigger?" Here in Colorado, not Georgia, or South Carolina, but here in Colorado. And he said it loudly, and confidently without shame. I explained to him that not only am I going to vote for him, that I'd just spent my entire afternoon and evening canvassing, walking and knocking door to door to make sure people are going to go out and vote. Perhaps he was saying it to get my goat, but after I looked him directly in the eye, and told him that, he kind of looked down at his beer, and we began an hour-long discussion about why Obama isn't a terrorist-loving, socialist out to destroy America as he was insisting. He was also s

"Some concern the direction the party has taken..."

Yeah, right off the edge into McCarthy-esque quasi-fascist land. Colin, like myself and millions of other Americans, are tired, tired, fucking tired, of using citizen's fear and yes, loathing (racism), to divide and conquer the electorate to simply maintain power. That way lies madness. And I'm afraid the fear and loathing cannot be put back in the bottle. The Right intends to poison the discourse to de-legitimize a possible Obama presidency -- but this will not be the 90's and anti-Clinton mania on the right, it will be outright xenophobia and pure animus. The crazy right-wingers who value their perceived status above their nation are the real traitors, but that fact will be lost on those who have consistently played victim while simultaneously attacking everyone and anyone who isn't in lock-step with them. Even conservative pundits (Parker, Will, Buckley, et al), and former political darlings of the Right (Powell and Rice) are being called traitorous scum at this very

Way to go John!

Is John McCain trying to lose? I think he's been listening to Rush Limbaugh just a little too long. He's lost his ever-flippin' mind if he thinks the comment (which was obviously vetted by the Atwater-acolytes running his disaster of a campaign) "Direct Counterpoint To Liberal Feminist Agenda," is going to gain votes for him, I mean this isn't the 60's anymore John. Apparently they are under the illusion that women, right and left, are too stupid to breathe. Wow, just, wow.
